In Born on the Fourth of July, Ron Kovic (Tom Cruise) naively volunteers for the Vietnam War after high school. In less than 15 minutes he manages to paralyze himself jack-hamming, machine-gunnin’, slow-mo fucking it up. He serves the rest of his time in a military hospital soiling pants (his) and staring at his own puke. Furiously living by the mantra, “love it or leave it,” he drinks a lot and rolls around in a wheelchair like Lieutenant Dan filled with the likes of really bad shroom trips and a whole lot of awkward silences for both the actors and the audience. All the debauchery (SPOILER ALERT) leads to the Republican National Convention where Kovic protests the war homelessly, but in a good way. If you want to see the treatment of Vietnam Vets in America and why Tom Cruise probably went sofa king crazy in 2005 you’ll want to check this out. So watch Born on the Fourth of July on Blu-Ray. You’ll love it or leave it.
